La Baguette & L’Echalote’s Artisan Bakery was the first to bring rich French culinary traditions to the Greater Vancouver region in 1982. It derived from the deep desires of our co-founders, Louise Turgeon and Mario Armitano, to provide locals healthy and flavourful alternatives to high-fat, preservative-laden, sugar-saturated chain store breads. Through hard work and unwavering commitment to excellence, La Baguette established a reputation for serving BC’s finest breads, rolls and baguettes.
When you tear into a hot loaf of our Peasant Farmer Artisan Bread, you’ll taste bread made from a 300 year-old Levain starter brought from a petite country bakery in the South of France. Our devotion to tradition doesn’t stop there. La Baguette only uses wild yeast, which sets our artisan breads apart. Many bakeries opt for the faster, more generic and predictable results obtained with commercial or artificial yeast. We have always used ‘the real thing’. It may take two full days to rise, but it’s well worth it because time = flavour. As seasoned artisans, we know you can’t rush quality.
Today, La Baguette & L’Echalote’s artisan breads are sold in the finest grocery stores, restaurants and bistros across Greater Vancouver and Whistler. We use only the finest ingredients, and mix, knead and bake breads 24/7 to guarantee freshness.
Our Vancouver bakery – Blé Bakery Ltd – is located at 252 East 1st Avenue, and we’re ready to serve you! To taste the difference, contact us.
